Eustis Chairs for University Kentucky Law Library
University of Kentucky opened their new Law School building and Library September 6th, 2019 in Lexington, Kentucky. This state of the art, $53 million dollar project was designed specifically for the law students in hopes it will be a collaborative space for growth and innovation for faculty and students alike. The architects for the building project were Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates of NYC and Sherman Carter Barnhart of Lexington, KY. KPC Architectural Products, a long time Eustis Chair customer, in Lexington, KY was the furniture dealer and installer who oversaw the receiving and setup of the hundreds of pieces furniture.
The old law building built in 1965 was outdated and could not effectively suit the physical and educational needs of the growing university program. It lacked comfortable spaces dedicated to studying and lounging. The new building, however, will be in the spotlight on campus, allowing students an even higher quality education that will better prepare them for their professional careers and help them truly make their mark on the world.
The massive new Law building includes a courtroom, upgraded classrooms, studying spaces, libraries, personal lockers, vending machines, student lounges, two terrace study spaces, and a lactation room. Students are already embracing the school’s dedication to more study spaces. Most law students report staying in the law building all day, attending classes, studying in between classes, and grabbing a coffee to refresh themselves…which is no problem for UK’s newest building.
What makes a comfortable study space? The atmosphere, noise level, dedicated personal space, and of course, comfortable yet durable seating. We were thrilled to provide UK with durable wooden chairs that would help their students achieve academic excellence. Working closely with the University and KPC Architectural Product, UK’s Law Library was our second installation of our Cascade chair. The Cascade was originally designed for King County Library Systems, but customized with arms for the UK Law Library.
The University of Kentucky Law Library is a premiere example of state of the art academic innovation and will surely set the precedent for academic building renovations across the country.
