Custom Hardwood Library Chairs for Melrose Public Library: Library Seating by Eustis Chair

The Melrose Public Library has long been a cornerstone of the community, and its recent renovation ensures that it will continue to serve generations to come. This transformative project, led by Tappé Architects and designed by Stefura Associates, beautifully balances historic preservation with modern functionality. As part of this endeavor, Eustis Chair was honored to craft 24 Nevada chairs in Red Oak and 40 Mid Century Modern chairs in White Oak, blending durability, comfort, and timeless design for this newly reimagined space.

A Vision for the Future

The journey to renovate and expand the Melrose Public Library was years in the making. The Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners (MBLC) provisionally approved a grant for the project in July 2021, provided the City of Melrose could secure local funding. By October of that year, the Melrose City Council unanimously voted in favor, ensuring that the library would receive the support it needed to create an accessible, modern facility.

Designed in alignment with the Library Building Program, developed in 2015, the renovation aimed to improve access both inside and outside the historic structure while enhancing services for the Melrose community. The result is a carefully executed blend of historic charm and modern efficiency, with sustainable elements incorporated throughout.

Thoughtfully Designed, Expertly Crafted

Throughout the renovation process, great care was taken to preserve the library’s original architectural features while introducing contemporary elements that support today’s library patrons. The project prioritized high-quality, durable furnishings—a natural fit for Eustis Chair.

For the library’s reading and study spaces, Eustis Chair built 24 Nevada chairs in Red Oak, known for their classic aesthetic and unmatched durability. These chairs, featuring our patented Eustis Joint®, provide both beauty and longevity, ensuring they can withstand decades of daily use.

Additionally, we crafted 40 Mid Century Modern chairs in White Oak, a stylish and functional seating choice that seamlessly complements the library’s newly designed interiors. The combination of Red Oak and White Oak highlights the thoughtful material selection made by Stefura Associates, ensuring a warm and inviting atmosphere for visitors.

A Legacy of Sustainability

One of the most exciting aspects of the renovation is its commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility. The Melrose Public Library project was designed to meet LEED certification standards, meaning that every decision—from materials to construction methods—was made with sustainability in mind. Eustis Chair’s solid hardwood seating aligns perfectly with this vision, as we source our wood from sustainably managed American forests and manufacture all of our chairs in the USA.

Looking Ahead

As construction nears completion, Melrose residents have expressed excitement about the transformation of their beloved library. The integration of comfortable, American-made hardwood seating further enhances the experience, ensuring that this space remains a gathering place for learning, collaboration, and community engagement.

We are grateful for the opportunity to contribute to this incredible project and extend our thanks to Tappé Architects, Stefura Associates, the City of Melrose, and the Melrose Public Library team for their dedication to bringing this vision to life.
