Pembroke School

Featured Project: Pembroke Hill School Custom Furniture Project

Pembroke Hill School, a prestigious educational institution in Kansas City, recently unveiled a transformative renovation to its Ward Parkway Campus—most notably in its new dining hall. At the center of this reimagined space is the collaboration between the school and Eustis Chair, bringing together high-quality, custom hardwood furniture, architectural vision, and a deep sense of community.

A Dining Hall Designed for Connection

When plans for the new Patterson Hall took shape, the design team worked closely with school leaders to define its purpose. They set out to create a place where the entire campus community could come together, with spaces that encourage conversation, shared experiences, and collaboration. Flexibility was another key priority, ensuring the building could adapt easily for a wide variety of events while using resources wisely. The result is a dining hall that not only supports daily meals but also serves as a venue for student dances, parent gatherings, and alumni celebrations, always with a cohesive look and feel across the campus.

Architectural Features That Inspire

The new dining hall makes a striking first impression. Its soaring, barrel-vaulted ceiling rises more than three stories, creating a sense of openness and light. At either end of the room, large stainless steel art panels, conceived by Dutch artist Jan Hendrix and fabricated locally by A. Zahner Company, bring an additional layer of artistry. The panels’ layered construction catches and reflects light differently throughout the day, adding movement and depth to the space while creating a visual landmark visible well beyond the building itself.

Custom Furniture by Eustis Chair

At the heart of this new space are 56 custom dining tables built by Eustis Chair—40 rectangular and 16 72-inch round—crafted from solid Beech and custom-stained to match the school’s chosen palette. The craftsmanship ensures each table blends seamlessly with the hall’s architecture while offering the durability needed for daily use by students and guests.

To complement these tables, Pembroke Hill selected 378 Westminster Stacking Chairs, also in solid Beech with matching custom stain. This pairing creates visual cohesion, ensuring that tables and chairs feel like a unified design element rather than separate pieces. The Westminster chair’s ability to stack offers flexibility for events while maintaining the classic look suited to such a distinguished space.

A Space for Every Occasion

While the dining hall will serve as a daily gathering place for students, its design allows for much more. The adaptable layout, cohesive furnishings, and thoughtful architectural features make it ideal for everything from intimate parent receptions to full-scale alumni events.

A Lasting Statement

The Pembroke Hill dining hall project is more than just a renovation—it’s a statement about the school’s values. It reflects an investment in community, flexibility, craftsmanship, and artistry. The combination of custom Eustis Chair furniture, stunning architectural features, and a vision rooted in connection ensures this space will remain a proud centerpiece of the Ward Parkway Campus for decades to come.
