Custom Conference Room Chairs
Our latest project with Harvard University resulted in a custom design for the Bulfinch Room in University Hall. Harvard needs no introduction as arguably the most recognizable college in America; to complement its prestigious reputation they have purchased our custom chairs for several student dormitories, dining halls, and meeting rooms throughout campus. University Hall in particular is a testament to the design by Charles Bulfinch, who was born before the Revolutionary War and widely considered the first native-born American architect. His namesake graces one of the meeting rooms within the Hall he designed, which is a designated National Historic Landmark in Harvard Yard.
Harvard’s internal team needed custom conference room chairs with particular specifications. The new chairs must complement the architecture and the existing conference table. They also needed to be lightweight for easy moving; and with a more modern style than the existing seating provided. We worked through these specifics and created an excellent chair to meet the test of time.
First, we took our Council Room model and lowered the height to fit under the conference table. We then borrowed the rolled top rail from the William and Mary design for the element needed to match University Hall’s grandeur. Its arm chair version had custom art rests (pictured left).
The details came together fabulously in Harvard’s newest Eustis Chairs, pictured above in their new home. Harvard’s team was so eager to put them in action that they held a meeting an hour after delivery! The Bulfinch Room will now house our seating in another Historic Landmark, set to be enjoyed by future Harvard personnel.
Our other projects at Harvard University include Memorial Hall (linked above), Adams House, the HBS Faculty Club, and Quincy House. For other projects we have collaborated with Harvard on, see more on our blog under the Harvard tag.
